Sergio Pena-Neira is a Associate Professor of Law and Researcher at the Universidad Mayor in Santiago de Chile. As well, Dr Pena-Neira is Visiting Researcher at the Faculty of Law of King´s College London (D. Poon), one of the 10 best universities in the world in matters of research.
Further, he is a Legal Research Fellow at the Center for International Sustainable Development Law at Mc Gill University, Canada and Visting Researcher of the Transnational Law Institute, KCL.
At the same time, recently, he has been awarded the Dr. iur in Law. (2014), LLM.(2011) and LLL and has a Graduate and Master degree in International Relations (2000).
In 2009 Professor. Peña-Neira was accepted as Visiting Researcher at the Department of International Law of the University of Goettingen, Germany as well as in 2006 Dr. Peña-Neira was accepted as Fellow at the IDGEC, University of California, Santa Barbara.
Among other areas of research Dr. Peña-Neira has focused his work on the problems derived from climate change and biodiversity in international law and policy, particulary, consecuences for biodiversity of this change. Recently, he has published an article on the lack of legal rules in Marine Genetic Resources in the High Seas. Passionate for the science of law and the problems from environment and economy he is based in Chile (the area of Santiago, Valparaiso and Vina del Mar) contributing to knowledge learning and creation as well as research in legal rules on climate change and biodiversity. Recently, he has been awarded a research scholarship from the Lauterpacht Center of International Law on the topic of Traditional Knowledge, Rights and Duties: Brandon Research Scholarships for developing this line of research (of almost 15 years) in Cambridge.
