First step is early-stage separation of MSW metals, glass, plastics, paper materials, all of which are mixed with organic and inorganic waste. This can be done on household-levels, complemented by centralized, industrial-scale separation. Contingent on reaching critical mass and minimum scale efficiency, ultimate goal should be to separate more effectively and recycle more, leaving organic waste as main fuel for burning and energy generation. Literature for technology selection for separation, crushing, grinding, drying, binding/bracketing, gas treatment and combustion is available. Key is to get political support and (partial) public funding for the front-end separation step and for the ultimate energy sale (usually back to the municipalities). |

If you haven't already, you should look to the Building Sector contests to see if there's possible collaboration there. Last year, one proposal involved a product called Hempcrete that might benefit from such metal bricks. I would like to contribute with the following ideas: a.- Be aware of social rejection (people sometimes do not accept to even collect their waste). b.- Be so kind to focus on the commercialization by economy of scale. In certain countries it might be possible to seel such idea or technology or the prototype and a company mght be interested diminishing the costs.c.- Be aware to sell the final prototype in copies that might be easy to handle. Unfortunately not all persons or groups of municipalities would have experts to handle the copy of your prototype (the machine) or to repair it in case of problems.d.- Be aware that in South America your project will be highly estimated therefore a good publicity for single municipalities of a low cost machine will be highly desirable. For this las idea do not forget youtube and other non commercial platform in which a short film might be more useful than an explanation. e.- Do not forget to consider rejection due to "everything is in the internet and it is just a matter of finding the appropriate technology". Such answer to proposals are quiet common for entrepreneurs. f.- Be aware of of costs related to shipping and handling if you would like to export your product and services. Best regards. Sergio |

There are problems related to social rejection and commmercialization to be considered. More, the technical problems derived from technology transfer might be an important issue to be considered. As you probably know already, rules on intellectual property are not the same as rules related to transfer of technology, many times related to the problem of contracts of public goods (good that are under the sovereign of the State, therefore private use is allowd by exption and not as a general rule). if you can elaborate on this issue would be outstanding to learn from you experience.
