Dear Jerry,
Thanks for being one of the first to help kick-off the proposal submission period for the Global Climate Action Plan contest of MIT's Climate CoLab. I'm one of the Fellows for this contest, here to serve as a liaison to the CoLab, answer questions, and provide substantive feedback to help strengthen proposals. Fellows will also have a role in the evaluative phase of this contest.
Thank you for getting started on your proposal about biochar. In this contest, you'll be asked to select and combine from the proposals in the various regional contests, in order to develop your own proposal for a comprehensive global plan. Please ensure that there are proposals in the regional contests that could be combined to formulate your proposal on biochar. Bear in mind that the regional contest submission period is still open, so new proposals may continue to be added in the coming days, up until the deadline.
Please look through the regional proposals to consider how they can fit together, and continue to fill out the remaining sections of your proposal.
Thanks for your contribution to the CoLab, and looking forward to how you develop this further.

Dear Jerry, I plan to cite your plan in my proposals for developing countries based on this World Bank Study; Biochar Systems for Smallholders in Developing Countries: Leveraging Current Knowledge and Exploring Future Potential for Climate-Smart Agriculture http://fb.me/38njVu2qz It has very exacting analysis of biomass usage & sources, energy & emissions. Also for Onion farmers in Senegal and Peanut farmers in Vietnam. A simple extrapolation made from the Kenya cook stove study, assuming 250M TLUDs, (Top-Lite Up Draft) Cook Stoves for the roughly 1 billion folks world wide now using open burning. A TLUD per Household of 4, producing 0.52 tons char/Household/yr, X 250M = 130 Mt Char/yr Showing sequestration of 130 Million tons of Biochar per year, could be achieved just from cooking. In terms of CO2e, these 250M Households reduce 825M Tons of CO2e annually. The cascading pulmonary health benefits for woman & children is the very thick icing on this 0.825 GtCO2e Soil Carbon Cake. And my proposal for developed countries based on the Pyrolitic Gas to liquid technology that has gained favor from Google, GE & Conoco, going online this year from CoolPlanet Bioenergy Systems. They are now building the reactors that convert 1 ton of biomass to 50 gallons of bio – gasoline and 1/3 ton Biochar for soil carbon sequestration. they state the production cost, from field to tank is $1.50/gallon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkYVlZ9v_0o
