Semi-Finalist Evaluation

Judges'' comments

Comments from Judge:

In order for this proposal to receive further consideration, I would like to see discussion of how the relative energy efficiency of the design ideas would be measured/quantified. For example, would a common energy modeling platform be required to provide an estimate of the relative efficiency compared to a minimally code-compliant design?

Novelty: There are many websites supported by nonprofit groups that post energy efficient design principles, case studies, and specifications. The idea of employing cloud-sourced feedback and voting is interesting, but it is not clear how the website would validate that the posted designs would actually qualify as more energy efficient than standard practice.

Feasibility: Constructing the proposed website is clearly feasible; however, I would like to see more discussion about the extent to which designers would have an incentive to post their design publicly, effectively giving their work away. Also, I would like to see discussion of how much it would cost to build and maintain the website, and where the funding would come from following any initial grants.

Impact: The impact of this project is not quantifiable given the open nature of creating an environment for sharing design ideas.

Presentation: The proposal is not complete, per the comments above.
