Member Profile
Pablo La Roche is Professor of Architecture at California State Polytechnic University Pomona and Director of Sustainable Design at HMC Architects where he heads the firm’s sustainable design initiative Archlab. He has an Architecture and Masters of Science degree from Universidad del Zulia and a PhD in Architecture from the University of California Los Angeles. He has published extensively in passive cooling and low energy architecture including two books, “Keeping Cool: Principles to Avoid Overheating in Buildings”, (coauthored and published by PLEA 2001) and “Carbon Neutral Architectural Design” (CRC Press-Taylor Francis 2011). His projects and work have been supported by organizations such as the EPA, Fulbright, NCARB and the California Energy Commission and in 2008 he led an interdisciplinary team of Cal Poly Pomona faculty and students to win the NCARB Grand Prize. He has chaired numerous conference sessions and recently co chaired the BESS SB13 California conference. Dr La Roche is a member of the advisory board of the journal “Informes de la Construccion” in Spain, a member of several international organizations and president elect of the Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE).
