We felt it was a great idea but there are some additional design areas that should be taken into account. There are substantial hurdles regarding infrastructure and entrenched waste management contracts. Also, there is the potential for this to have a high impact, but you will need to show end product options for recycled materials.
Another area for consideration is that this system is huge and centralized. It might work for the largest of cities, but what is the average hauling distance and what are the hauling costs to and from the facility? What about smaller cities that don't need so many thousands of tons per day.
For the organic fraction, have you considered industrial scale vermicomposting as demonstrated in New Zealand for example? That would recycle nutrients rather than potentially losing them.
Presently, the idea seems cost prohibitive and will run afoul of existing waste management companies (e.g., requires a dictator, too much centralization - high carbon costs, etc.). We encourage you to continue to develop your idea by taking into whether or not there are any ecohubs in existence as well as possibly calculating the net present value and determining how far these ecohubs can be economically scaled down.
We were confused by the first figure due to its missing caption. Is that a counter example? Are you trying to show that OneBin is better?
