I think it is equally important to link the data set with a visualization tool, so that also the citizens can connect to these data obtaining information. Firstly one can think to risks and vulnerabilities' mapping. What do you think?

Carolina has the point.Mapping out risks and hazards is important.
So my question to the team is will you collect the data by yourslef or utilize existing databases? what's the role of your software if you can elborate or add more details to the page.
Thanks.

This is definitely one project where relying one experience for the data collection, and using first principle thinking to extrapolate solutions will be key.
Mesh networking would also be important, so that when big power and communication networks go down, the network will still be operational thanks to all the tiny devices connected to it.
Cheers,

I like this idea a lot - underlying website and data infrastructure is critical and under-appreciated in a lot of circles. For the more basic pieces, are you planning on building them from scratch or working with an existing project like CiviCRM? Civi in particular would seem to be a natural starting point, since it would work with Wordpress and Drupal, is also open source, and can take care of the basic pieces, allowing you to focus on building standard linkages for data sharing and usage. I don’t think that visualization is quite as critical in all cases, and again, is something that could be extended off of existing tools rather than built from scratch.

The NYCprepared group is a great example of initiating resilience process before the events occur. I agree however that too much reliance on technology can be a problem when systems go down, web sites are useless when electricity is off and people are in the dark, panicked. Mesh web communications are a great idea, especially for news distribution. How about designated information curators set up with excellent back up power and transmission devices for low tech but effective information and support distribution. " Where is there warm safe shelter and water" for example.

I'd be interested to know who the primary users of your tool are (or are anticipated to be?) Could individuals realistically connect with this or is it more intended for organizations?

Great start! It will be important to flesh out the details to develop the narrative and give a clearer picture of the users.
Thanks!

Hi and thank you for your proposal!
As the deadline for the contest comes closer, the authors should think of finishing out the proposals.
I would really like to see the software design broken down in some detail, and the proposal fully developed, identifying promoters, users, and some guidance about how it is expected to work in a real situation.
Picking on some of the ideas above, I would suggest a mixed analogic-digital framework and the use of GIS. How this fit in the proposal?
Good luck!

I wish you the best! Please, check my proposal in Waste Management Contest, named "REACC: Recycled Debris for Adaptation to Climate Change"; and I would apreciate your support as I supported your proposal.
