Summary
Ecotourism is a growing segment of the global tourism industry that is making significant positive contributions to the environmental, social, cultural and economic well-being of the Usambara destination and local communities around the Magamba nature reserve. Since eco –tourism promote development of sustainable tourism within the village communities and is natural environment friendly operated, tourism.
Awareness creation; educating and interacting with the community on how to conserve and preserve the Magamba nature reserve in relation to tourism and Culture, purchasing of the mountains bikes and camping equipment while creating and promote codes of culture, which are environmental friends
Training of the local tour guides; the local tour guides will be trained on the importance of conserving the Magamba ecological system, handling different segments of tourists with different attitudes and the community around, as they are intended to stand as community leaders especially on reminding and portraying tourism and conservation ideologies to the local villages around the reserve;
The project is also intending to developed mountains bike tours and rent bikes with camping equipments to camp at the villages or within the reserve, these bikes and camping equipment will be used as income generated activities for the Friends of Usambara Society,and other tourism stake holders.
After all the activities have been done the following outcome are expected to be seen; Increase number of visitors in Usambara Mountains, Improved economic status of local people living adjacent to Magamba nature reserve, Increase fund for conservation activities as tourists visiting Magamba nature reserve will pay entrance fee, Ensure visitors satisfactions, as tour guides will have the better knowledge about their environment, local people learned positively effect on tourism particularly on use of eco tourism as tools to earn money rather than depending on timber products.

What actions do you propose?
The general purpose of the proposed project is to conserve the ecology system of the Magamba nature reserve in collaboration with community and later develop sustainable tourism within the whole Usambara. Friends of Usambara have the following target on project to be implemented:-
Ensuring sustainable utilization of cultural and natural resources, as ecotourism is nature and cultural friendly (based on the ecotourism principles), it will ensure long term conservation goals of eastern arc mountains. Increasing the number of visitors visiting Usambara Mountains,
Tourist’s entrance fee to the reserve will increase fund for conservation activities. The project aim to create awareness to the local people on importance of using tourism as tools to generate income to sustain their life as well as conservation of the reserve. The project also intend to create an opportunities for local people to rise their income per capital though engaging fully into tourism activities such as direct employment as a tour guides, drivers, hoteliers and other related activities in the industry, this will ensure long-term conservation Magamna nature reserve and eastern arc mountains as whole.
As tourism increases in Lushoto, lots of youth in tourism stake holders are prompted on guiding the tourists to several tourism attractions Magamba nature reserve being amongst of the attraction, the project will focused on empower about 50 tour guides who are mostly coming from the villagers adjacent to Magamba nature reserve on utilizing these nature recourses as a tool to earn income hence decreases pressure and destructing of the nature reserve. Training of local tour guides based on the following topics; Conservation education; Ecology, Identification of plants species, flowers, birds and animals found in Usambara; Culture and history of Usambara; Tour guiding ethics and Customer care.
METHODOLOGY FOR IMPLEMENTING THE PROJECT
Project implementation will be generally based on community participation approach. Successful implementation of project activities will involve multi-sectoral approach, which requires very strong commitment, close collaboration and smooth co-ordination of all stakeholders in the implementation of the project as follows:
Employ trainers (TOT), these will be professionals in tourism industry, institutions lecturers and well experienced tour guide professionals; Involving all tourism stakeholders that is local people, government officials and private sectors in all stages toward establishing the project

Utilisation of Eco Tourism as sources of income generating activities to the tourism stake holders and villages adjacent to Magamba nature reserve contributing to the proper conservation.
Outputs/Deliverables:
- Long term of Magamba Nature reserved imputed
- The improvement of living standards amongst the local community.
Implementation of the proposed project will enhance local communities in the targeted tourism stake holders to improve their livelihoods in the future and also to reduce dependence on forest products from the Magamba Nature reserve.
