Dr. Subhashree Mishra is a AAAS Science and Technology Policy fellow working in the Solar Energy Technologies Office, SunShot Initiative at the U.S. Department of Energy (D.O.E.). She is currently working on various scientific and techno-economic challenges to the SunShot Initiative which aims at  making solar electricity cost $0.06 per kilowatt-hour. Her focus is on issues such as solar forecasting improvements to increase dispatchability of solar energy, grid integration challenges for solar energy, and non-hardware related barriers to reaching the SunShot target.

Prior to her position in DOE she was a postdoctoral research scientist working at the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, Oklahoma. She received her Ph.D. and M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno. Her dissertation work was focused on cloud-climate feedbacks and cloud microphysics.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from the University of Madras, India.

Her research interests include cloud microphysics, atmospheric measurements, atmospheric radiation transfer, climate change science and societal impacts of climate change. She also has keen interest in international scientific collaborations, science education and science policy. She developed and taught a science policy class in the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma, entitled, “Science Policy and its Significance to Weather, Water and Climate” in spring 2013.
