Pitch
Hydrophneumatic system avoids over head tank and provide required pressure at house which further avoids underground tank and house pumps.
Description
Summary
Community water supply system in Nepal uses overhead tank. Water is pumped up to overhead tank and supplied to community network by gravity system. Water pressure in the houses depends upon its distance from the the overhead tank. Houses located faraway from the tank gets low pressure. As a result people need to make undergound tank and pumping system to transmit water up to rooftop tank. If we use hydropneumatic sytem, which adjust pressure based on demand, can avoid overhead tank. Water is supplied directly up to roof top tank. People do not need to construct underground tank and pumping system. Energy saving with hydrophneumatic system will be analyzed using Epanet (software). System will be practiced in a community system where there is both overhead tank as well as underground tank. Analyzed energy saving will be compared with real water saving. This kind of data can be analyzed within 24 hours because cycle repeats in same way. This will help government to revise its policy and also help community to revise its mode of operation. In long run it will saves lot of energy and contribute to avoid green house gas emission.
Is this proposal for a practice or a project?
Not sure
What actions do you propose?
Select a community where there is water supply system with overhead tank and underground tank as well.
Measure sysmtem compoment, hydraulic paramater of network and convert in to Epanet. Use google map for more accurate locations for the system component and network.
Analyze energy required with or without overhead tank within 24 hours or more.
Install hydropheneumatic system and supply water bypassing Overhead tank
Compare real energy in both system and calibrate energy calculated by Epanet. This exercise will be done for a month
Calculate energy saving in year and long term and cost saving for the construction of system and operation.
Who will take these actions?
I will provide technical support and make key analysis
Selected community will take part actively
Related water supply department and local authorities will be consulted and involved
Cost required for installing hydropheneumatic system will be covered from the project
Where will these actions be taken?
Selected community in Nepal
In addition, specify the country or countries where these actions will be taken.
Nepal

No country selected
Country 3

Impact/Benefits
What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?
This will save energy required for water supply system. In long run this will avoid lot of greenhouse gases equivalent to energy saved. Actual saving will be calculated during analysis.
What are other key benefits?
Cost of water supply system will be saved because cost of underground tank and hydrophneumatic system is much cheaper than overheat tank.
People saves lot of money because they do not need to construct under ground tank and pumping system
This will provide require pressure in the whole community which would otherwise limited by height of the overhead tank.
Costs/Challenges
What are the proposal’s projected costs?
Installation of hydropheneumatic system: 5000$
System analysis: 1000$
Equipment for measuring pressure, flow and energy: 1000$
Operation and monitoring :1000$
Total : 8000$
Timeline
This is a demonstration project. This will come out with result within 6 month. Government and people will adopt the system. It may replicate within 5 years to some extent and within 10 years to large extent. As country become self reliant in hydropower this sytem becomes more popular.
