This is a great proposal, well done! Please do emphasize what specific SDGs are being dealt with in an integrated fashion with this proposal. Furthermore, it would be good to touch on the human dimension- who gets jobs from this up-cycling? Are waste pickers in some way involved? Please do expand and make links to other societal concerns that this innovation could address. The focus on waste is really important, and I recommend that you team up with the proposal entitled "Global waste reduction and Climate Change slowdown through systemic approach" in order to strengthen both of your chances. They also focus on waste, but have a food waste component.

Our project have developed a chemical free, energy conserving plastic extrusion technology called “Waxy technology” to recycle and transform post consumer plastic garbage and packaging materials into durable and long lasting plastic timbers, Plastic timbers are affordable alternative to wood timbers, hence reduces the need for building material manufactured from wood, helping to preserve forests, cut down on deforestation and further mitigation of climate change. We are simply the pioneer of chemical free and energy conserving plastic extrusion technology in Africa. Addressing the sustainable development goals number 11,13 and 15.

On human dimension focusing on social impact:

  • Our project generates reliable employment opportunities for individuals mostly youth and widow women from marginalized communities, who manage the collection of plastic garbage, sorting then, sell to us per kilo, where they earn up to US$ 5.15/day.

  • Our project launched, “Garbage Medical Insurance” which is a micro health insurance program which uses plastic garbage as a financial resource. With this program, the community and uninsured poor slum dwellers are able to pay for health cover, drugs and other clinical services by using plastic garbage as payment to an insurance scheme. This, in turn improves their access to medical treatment and the quality of public health program with respect to promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative well-being mainly targeting slum children below 5 years and expectant women. It further offers the community an incentive to start an organized waste management and waste entrepreneurship system from household level so as to benefit from continual health insurance.

Thanks you so much
