The Public Voting Period is now open. Please read these important details about the voting period: Anyone (over the age of 18) can vote by registering on the Climate CoLab website and clicking "Vote for proposal" on the proposal page. Members can vote for one (1) proposal per contest, and can change their vote as many times as they wish before the voting period ends. “Supports" do not equal votes. People who have previously "supported" a proposal will also need to select "Vote for proposal" to have their vote counted. Exception: Members who have only supported one proposal in a contest will get a notification that their support has been converted to a vote, which they may change if they wish. All other members who have supported your proposal will be emailed and invited to cast a vote for your proposal. To prevent abuse, we require avalid email address in order to count a member's vote. You’re Invited!
As a Finalist, 1 member of your team is invited to be a special guest at the MIT Climate CoLab Crowds & Climate conference Sept 28 - 29, held at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
All Finalists are asked to submit a 3-minute video outlining their proposal. Videos will be featured on the MIT Climate CoLab website and Winners videos will be displayed at the conference. An invitation to the conference along with details about the video will be sent soon.

Judges'' comments
Thank you for your submission to the Climate CoLab.
The Judges would like you to address:
1) the need to handle a heavy and bulky chimney over the stove, and
2) the presence of smoke at ground level in an environment where there will be people breathing these gases.
 Climate Rescue Jun 11, 2016 02:38  | Proposal creator Thanks for your helpful questions. I've updated the summary, benefits and costs sections to reply and to list the novel features. Handling. The drying chimney looks heavy, like an old oil drum, but actually it's light since it's made from a recycled kitchen bin. I use a simple stand similar to what people use to support large pots for cooking. The weight is manageable, like lifting a small dog, although you can load and unload wood with the drying chimney in place. Smoke. The photo shows what looks like smoke but actually it's almost entirely steam from the drying process. There is a small fraction of combustion products (CO2 but no particulates or CO) from the cookstove used for heating. I've added advice to use the unit in a safe open space outdoors. |
