And what day might all these countries adopt as a "Sabbath" rest for the planet? The most logical, would be the day the Pope and Sunday sacredness movements are pushing for. God gave a day of rest in His Word that, if honored and kept would already implement your idea. The concern, here is that while your organization may not be "religious" affiliation, it could only play into the hands of some very powerful religious groups that do want to force the world to worship on Sunday. That alliance can only lead to a church-state union, and that union can only lead back to tyranny and lost of personal freedoms and a destruction of our constitutional rights in America.

Proposal contributor As clearly stated, Green Sabbath is a non-religious, non-political, non-profit organization. The organization aims to encourage people to help slow climate change, preserve precious natural resources and improve planet health by having at least one carbon footprint-free day each week–on any day of the week that works for you. We call it symbolically A Green Sabbath Day. The organization’s name borrowed symbolically from traditions’ day of rest and conservation. Sabbath is not a new idea. Although Green Sabbath has no religious affiliations, its vision was inspired by essence of two traditions. One is the ancient tradition of sabbath practiced in some form by all major faiths. The other is the likes of contemporary movements such as Paul McCartney's “Meat Free Monday” and “Wheatless Wednesday” that were introduced to encourage public to observe an ecological conservation day. A period of environmental rest.

If you are going to take the idea from the historical Sabbath practiced by Jesus, the jews, and held today by many, then by all means stay with the historical Saturday Sabbath, as the Bible has dictated for centuries. If that's the case, then great, I'm all for it. Michele B.
