Yay, let’s help transform the cityscape for the future. A few thoughts: 1. The Community Cleanup Day in Boulder is well organized and successful. Perhaps you can work with/learn from the organizers of that event and maybe even use their mailing list as the starting point of this project. 2. It’ll be a great idea to have community/individual “ownership” of each project. That should take care of the long term maintenance issue. 3. It’s important to get a city buy-in for this for the land usage. Have you talked to any city council members? 4. It’ll be helpful to have a website that showcase other cities that have done this. Photos of their “urban forests” will be very helpful. Finally, the presentation has some formatting issues that need to be fixed. It also needs to be proofread.
Utilizing urban parks and open space is a useful way to bring people together. The proposal seems similar to creating more community garden spaces. It seems that these models might be useful to look at. Maintenance is an additional issue to address. Because playing in the soil is always good for community building, advancement is recommended. Currently cities send out lawn mowing crews and spray to keep dandelions down. There would be a yearly cost to the city to maintain the gardens.
