Dear Jan-k,
Thank you for your submission. We like your idea of painting the roofs white and using other light reflective materials, but we have not selected it as a finalist primarily because this is not that new of an idea. However, we recognize that there are implementation problems with the idea, and in a future contest we would encourage you to submit a proposal detailing how to achieve it, such as in the two ways you suggest: education or mandatory building codes.

Dear Jan-K,
I am quite pleased to read "paint the roofs white". I did this in 1990 to keep my house cool; applied lime to roof-top externally and enjoyed the drop in temperature that ensued. I live at Nagpur, India; city experiences very hot summer every year. Lime was washed away during the mansson rains next season, so next year I mixed lime with Fevicol adhesive and enjoyed for 6 more years. This can reduce the energy expenditure required for cooling. I did not know that it would be beneficial for reducing carbon emission directly; indirect being the reduction in energy consumption.

Dear Hemant Wagh,
Nice that you like my proposal for last years competition. As you seem to have a cost-effective solution how to paint the roofs white, perhaps we could resubmit this to next years (2015)competition together?

Dear Jan-K,
I am very thankful to you for your invitation. Way back in 1991 I used 'Fevicol' brand of adhesive available in India. Of late a 'Marine Fevicol' version is available which is water resistant. I am not promoting a particular brand but just informing about what I did at that time. I will sure join you in that project. "Swami Vivekananda Fruit-Trees Expansion Mission" would be helpful to you in your current activity.
Thanks.

If a paint which is antithetical to photo-chrome glasses, that is the one which becomes white at higher temperatures and dark at lower temperature ranges it would be good for temperate zone countries, for it may avoid the winter penalties..

This is a challenge for the chemists, chemical engineers everywhere. If MIT discovers it first they should do T-o-T without charging fees, in the interest of climate.

| Truly, this article is really one of the very best in the history of articles. Roof restoration in Melbourne is a common practice in houses that are over a decade old. |
