Profitable building efficiency investments
CURRENT CONTEST
How can building efficiency investments whose savings exceed their costs be stimulated?
For many initiatives that increase the energy efficiency of buildings, the lifetime savings exceed the costs, even if the up front funds are borrowed. The IPCC estimates that investments of this kind, which yield a financial profit, could by 2030 reduce emissions from the energy sector more than 10 percent versus the baseline.
Although such investments are seemingly attractive, they are often not made. This contest seeks proposals on how to encourage these economically and environmentally beneficial investments.

Decarbonizing electric power
CURRENT CONTEST
How can utilities in the largest emitting countries be influenced to reduce emissions?
In 2030, the electric powers sectors of the four largest emitters--China, the US, India, and the EU--will account for two thirds of carbon dioxide emissions from the world’s electricity production and nearly 30 percent of total emissions from the global energy sector.
This contest seeks proposals on how businesses, governments, universities, churches, NGOs, or individual citizens can influence the utilities that provide electricity in the big four countries/regions to decarbonize their power generation systems.
