Dr. Sathaye’s current interests focus on research, modeling and policy analysis of climate change mitigation, energy efficiency standards, building energy use including cool roofs, power and forest sector analysis, and development of global and country-specific models for the evaluation of costs and climate mitigation potential options in California, India, China, Brazil and other major developing countries. He has worked extensively on forestry programs to reduce carbon dioxide and alleviate poverty in developing countries for 25 years.
He has published more than 220 articles, books and book chapters, and reports in major energy and environment journals. He has been a Coordinating Lead author of twelve publications of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since 1990 and is thus a recipient of the 2007 IPCC Nobel Peace Prize.
He holds a B.Tech. (Hons.) degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine. He was a Senior Scientist and Strategic Advisor, and Founder of the International Energy Studies Group, and employed since 1974 at LBNL. He was an Adjunct Professor at Univ. of San Francisco and Stanford University, and is currently a Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley.
