Eric Grunebaum is cofounder of TeraCool LLC, an award-winning industrial ecology/energy efficiency startup focusing on large data centers, he is the Business Development Manager for Apeiron-Synthesis, a European green chemistry startup and he is an independent advisor for commercial solar energy projects via Cambridge Energy Advisors. Prior to his energy work, Eric wrote, produced and directed documentary films and multimedia for 25 years. He produced, "The Last Mountain," a documentary film on coal mining and burning in the U.S., highlighting a West Virginia community which proposes a 328 MW wind farm to be located on a nearby mountain range which is now slated for strip-mining. The film premiered at the 2011 Sundance film festival and was theatrically released nationally. He co-produced the PBS documentary "A Life Among Whales" on MacArthur “Genius Grant” winner Roger Payne and produced the feature documentary "The Price of Sugar" which was short-listed for the Academy Award, won the first Slow Food on Film Award and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Eric was also a producer, director and writer for multimedia museum installations, focusing on the communication of science and culture to broad audiences. His exhibits have been installed at art, science and natural history museums nationwide including Ellis Island, The California Science Center and the Cranbrook Institute of Science. Prior to his museum work, Eric began his career as a mixed-income real estate developer. In addition to his energy projects, Eric is working on "The Rock that Changed the World," a social venture which grows out of his last film and seeks to promote a broader understanding of the history and science of coal as well as renewable energy alternatives via science and natural history museums. Eric grew up in Cambridge and currently lives in North Cambridge with his wife and two teenagers.
