Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Aska gained BAs in International Relations as well as Economics from Boston University with a minor in Business Administration. After working as a business consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers for a few years, Aska moved to Hawaii to pursue an MA in Pacific Islands Studies specializing in the climate change impacts in the Pacific Islands (especially sociocultural impacts in Samoa). Since then, her career has revolved around the area of climate change and disaster relief in both Japan and the Pacific region. For the past few years, Aska served as the Vice President of a Japan/Tuvalu-based climate change-related NGO, and is also a mother of a 1-year old daughter. She has recently co-founded with her husband a startup company which aims to promote and incubate social ideas.
Area of knowledge: Climate change vulnerabilities and community-based adaptation in the Pacific region. Special focus on traditional knowledge and climate change-induced relocation.
