Trained in both ecology and social sciences, I received my BS from Peking University, China, MS from Iowa State University, and PhD at Michigan State University, USA. I collaborate with academia, NGOs and government on research related to sustainability transitions of complex social-ecological systems, multi-scale resilience assessment, ecosystem-based climate adaptation and integrated assessment of environmental and development policies. I am also a practitioner, mainly working with the NGO Human and Environment Linkage Programme that I co-founded in 2008. I provide consultancy services and policy advice to a range of governmental agencies and international non-governmental organizations, often on the topics of biodiversity conservation, climate and/or disaster risk and resilience, and development issues.
