Ali Raza Rizvi is responsible for IUCN’s global adaptation and disaster risk reduction programme and is based at its Washington DC Office.

Ali has been involved with the conservation & sustainable development sector for over two decades and has managed diverse programmes and projects worldwide. He has extensive experience in the areas of policy analysis, strategy formulation, sustainable livelihoods, food security, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation. He provides strategic direction and operational guidance for the development and implementation of IUCN’s work on climate adaptation. He serves as technical and policy focal point and represents IUCN at international policy fora including the UNFCCC on adaptation and Loss & Damage.

Ali’s experience of working in the field of adaptation has encompassed a wide range of field work and policy influencing initiatives. This includes supervising vulnerability and capacity assessments, developing adaptation strategies and implementation plans, monitoring & evaluation and impact assessments. Moreover, Ali has experience of working with mainstream development and humanitarian agencies on their rehabilitation, livelihoods, and adaptation initiatives with the objective of incorporating ecosystems based approaches into programmes and projects. He has several publications covering conservation and development topics.
