Pitch

Build a website where people can post sketchup designs of energy efficient buildings and building additions. Host contests for best designs.

Description

Summary

Build a website where creative people can post sketchup models of designs they have created that are focused on energy efficiency.  The website could have functionality similar to the comedy website/app called ifunny where people's posts are rated by the crowd and the best posts make the short list and are "featured".  Or formal contests could be held where the models posted are judged by experts in the field and cash prizes could be awarded.  People who find an idea on the site and either build the building or some component of the design could be asked to post a photograph and review of the finished product commenting on actual energy efficiency gains.

What actions do you propose?

Design and promote a website where creative minds can express themselves and receive recognition for exceptional work.  This could be done by sponsoring contests where the winning designs are featured in architectural magazines or awarded with cash prizes for novel functional designs that reduce GHG emissions.  A second aspect of the site could be where homeowners could upload a photograph of their home and people could compete to create the best design for an energy efficient addition to the home e.g. a sunroom on the south side of the home.

Who will take these actions?

Where will these actions be taken?

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

Building a small sunroom on the south side of my home has reduced my heating bill by an estimated 10%, if these results can be improved upon and multiplied by many houses the reduction in GHG emissions could be enormous.

What are other key benefits?

What are the proposal’s costs?

The cost of building an hosting a website similar to the climatecolab.org.
