Reduce traffic, pollution, and improve national health at the same time.


Description

Summary

Bike friendly city planning. Anytime new roads are built, safe bike lanes must be incorporated. Universal greenways that link centers of commerce, for walkers and bikers.

What actions do you propose?

Make funding available for all new roads projects and urban renewal projects to encourage human powered transportation for most short distance travel. Have contests to develop the most creative and efficient city designs. Make rental bicycles available for tourists who come from other areas.

Federal, state and local governments.


Where will these actions be taken?

Starting in the US.


How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

Most commutes under 10 miles could be eliminated or significantly reduced. 


What are other key benefits?

Increased health benefits. Reduced traffic.


What are the proposal’s costs?

This is a low tech step that can be implemented gradually starting immediately.
