Is the U.S. populated enough to develop high-speed rail? Can be very costly.

As a way to gain public support and to integrate the high speed rail with our current system consider a system that can transport small cars and freight while still loading and unloading very quickly, like the ferry system. Possibly cars driving on and off of rail beds. This would allow integration with the road system and hopefully allow trains to replace highways entirely eventually.
