Pitch

Radicals constitute the principle sink for atmospheric CH4. By manipulating NOx, it's possible to reduce CH4 lifetimes - at cost of O3 loss.

Description

Summary

Zhou considered manipulation of atmospheric NOx, and found significant reductions to methane residency times. This technique could address a substantial fraction of the global methane budget by enhancing the principal sink. Ozone impacts are likely unacceptable in an unmodified Zhou scheme.

What actions do you propose?

Who will take these actions?

Where will these actions be taken?

What are other key benefits?

This research will improve understanding of the methane budget in altered atmospheres (both natural and artificial).

What are the proposal’s costs?

At present, only modest lab-based research is required.
