Working with moderators, Expert Council members use their expertise to:
- evaluate the credibility of various parts of the Proposals, Models, and Debates, and
- make suggestions abut how to improve these elements when needed.
In this sense, Expert Council members play a role somewhat like peer reviewers for an academic journal. However, this role is not like reviewers for journal articles in the following ways:
- the units of information reviewed will generally be much smaller than a whole article,
- the turnaround time for reviews will be quite a bit faster, and
- the reviewers will not usually keep information out of the CoLab altogether; instead their primary role will be to help identify and bring attention to the most credible or important information users have contributed.
Of course, Expert Council members--like all other users--are also encouraged to contribute to Proposals, Models, and Debates in which they are interested.
Reviewing process
It is very likely that the Expert Council will evolve its reviewing processes over time as experiences and needs change.
For an example of one proposed approach, see Proposed reviewing process for simulation models.
