The chart below, prepared by the University of Washington's Center for Science in the Earth System (CSES), provides a one-page overview of climate change.

It covers two topics:

• How the greenhouse effect works
• Historical trends for atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) and average global surface temperature
