Background on this topic
In late 2009, the Climategate controversy brought new attention to the debate about whether human actions are causing changes to the earth's climate system. On December, 6 2009, just before the UN climate talks began in Copenhagen, the Wall Street Journal ran an article by Michael Totty entitled What Global Warming? A look at the arguments the skeptics makeāand how believers respond. Totty's piece summarized the leading arguments of climate skeptics and those of climate change proponents.
The Collaboratorium community believed this article could serve as a good jumping off point for an online conversation about this important question.
The community thus created a new Debate topic entitled, Is the earth's climate changing due to human activity?
The initial Debate summary for this topic was based on the the positions of climate skeptics and proponents articulated in Totty's WSJ article.
