Collaboratorium software platform

The CoLab software platform is open source software built using a combination of open source tools and custom software.

The Chief Software Architect for the project is Joshua Introne. He wrote the code for many of the modules, managed other software developers participating in the project, and was responsible for overall integration of the system. Other contributors are listed as part of the Project staff.

Current version

The current version of the CoLab is based on Liferay an open source social collaboration portal.

A number of the modules were developed under contract to MIT by TopCoder, a firm which uses a crowdsourced, competition-based model for software development. Special thanks goes to Janusz Parfieniuk who was responsible for the bulk of the code produced by TopCoder.

Previous version

The first prototype version of the CoLab was written as a Flash application. It is still available for demonstration purposes at http://cognosis.mit.edu/, but it is no longer in active use.
