Pitch

Use one paper towel after washing your hands in public places, and use a cloth towel in your own home.

Description

Summary

The proposal is to use only one single paper towel after washing your hands in public places, such as restrooms. By using only one paper towel sheet, you can dry your hands to near completion by getting the most use out of one paper towel, and if your hands are still wet, then you can shake them off or wipe them on your clothes. There really is no need to grab a hand-full of paper towels every time you wash your hands, and it is actually affecting our environment and our future, since paper is made from trees, and trees are a valuable resource that are diminishing at a fast pace. Make the change, it is far too simple and it would be so wasteful not to with our currently devastated environment.

Category of the action

Reducing consumption

What actions do you propose?

Paper towel dispensers should have a recommendation on them for using only one sheet per hand-washing instead of multiple sheets. The actual action can be taken by anyone and everyone, and the simple change is something that could have huge impacts if enough people were willing to fix their bad habits.

Who will take these actions?

Everyone drying their hands in public would have to make the change themselves, and they could learn about the idea by reading it on the paper towel dispenser as they are grabbing a paper towel to dry their hands.

Where will these actions be taken?

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

What are other key benefits?

What are the proposal’s costs?
