Leslie Labruto is the Director of Resilient Communities for the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) at the Clinton Foundation in New York City. The Resilient Communities focuses on diesel replacement in small island developing nations. Under this program, Leslie led a team merger with the Resilient Communities team and Rocky Mountain Institute-Carbon War Room's Islands team. Together, the team is working to promote clean energy, energy efficiency, and whole systems solutions in the Caribbean and in East African island nations. Leslie joins CCI from Summit Partners, a $15 billion venture capital and growth equity firm in Boston, where she served on the Technology investment team with a focus on energy data, energy storage, and infrastructure software. Previously, Leslie received her Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Futures from Imperial College in London where she published her thesis on Contrasting Perspectives on China’s Rare Earth Policies in the Journal of Energy Policy. While in London, Leslie also worked as the Series Coordinator at the UK-Green Building Council for the London Olympics. She earned her undergraduate engineering degree from Vanderbilt University, where she currently serves on the Vanderbilt Board of Trust. While at Vanderbilt, she served as president of Students Promoting Environmental Awareness and Recycling (SPEAR) and led an initiative in partnership with Vanderbilt Student Government to secure Vanderbilt’s $75,000 Green Fund for sustainable student initiatives on campus. Leslie also helped create Vanderbilt’s first humanitarian senior design project which aims to bring renewable energy to a rural community in Guatemala.
