Dr Ehrhart has more than 20 years of professional experience working within governments, the UN, civil society and the private sector for sustainable development and an end to poverty in our world of plenty. For the past ten years, Charles has focused on the challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change - specifically from the vantage of poor and marginalised people. Since 2011, Dr Ehrhart has helped shape Floresta's effort to put private sector finance and knowhow behind government-led plans to build inclusive green economies, transition to renewable sources of energy, and reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD). From 2006 to 2011, he led CARE International’s response to climate change across seventy-eight countries. Earlier, Dr Ehrhart directed a regional forest landscape management programme in East Africa and held senior technical positions with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Oxfam. Charles has a PhD and MPhil in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University. Dr Ehrhart continues to publish, is often invited to speak at important international conferences, and has been cited by major newspapers as an expert on the social impacts of climate change. Major areas of professional interest include public-private partnerships for climate action, climate finance, the role of green economic growth and the private sector in landscape-level REDD+ strategies, jurisdictional approaches to REDD+, community and ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation, climate change and food security, climate change and human mobility, climate change policy frameworks, and organisational development.
