The tech-wise, social entrepreneur, founder and president of Agri-Tech Producers, LLC (ATP), Joe James, is a former, 33-year economic development professional, who has previously commercialized USDA technology in one of his other companies.

Mr James has recently devised a patent-pending Combined Remediation Biomass and Bio-Products Production (CRBBP) Process, which cost-effectively remediates contaminated or stabilizes eroding sites, using the enhanced phytoremediation and soil stabilization capabilities of the prodigious root systems of bio-crops and bio-trees; then converts the resulting, cost-effective source of  biomass into a variety of bio-products, including: biochars, to increase soil productivity; fillers or extenders, which are used to make stronger, lighter and water-resistant plastics; a cleaner and safer alternative to wood-based charcoal; and a bio-coal, which can be co-fired in coal-fired power plants, with minimal equipment upgrades, to proportionately reduce carbon and chemical pollution.  The CRBBP Process can substantially increase the availability of lower-cost biomass from various underutilized sites, like coal ash deposits, wastewater spray fields, eroding soils in a place like Haiti, as well as reducing nutrient pollution in farmland, like that of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

In addition, ATP has licensed an innovative form of torrefaction technology, from NC State University, which cost-effectively converts plant and woody biomass into a clean and renewable alternative to coal and charcoal, as well as into a feedstock from which to make a variety of bio-products.  Mr. James is a biomass leader in the Southeast, having founded the South Carolina Biomass Council.  He has scored well in a series of business plan competition and is a 2008 Purpose Prize Winner, for his Greening of Black America Initiative.  He has a BS in Science, from Union College, and has studied Law and Business at NYU.
