Judging Criteria
This contest seeks the following:
- Ways to develop standardized terminology and shared understanding for energy and carbon and the corresponding footprint in materials
- Novel methods to increase the perceived value of material composition
- Breakthrough technologies that lower the impact of materials
- Incentives to increase the adoption of lower impact materials for fabrics
- Solutions that drive collaboration across industry and supply chain
- Models to support demand creation for lower impact materials
- Campaigns or programs that redefine how apparel is used
Contest entries can be in the form of the following:
- Technical solutions
- New business models
- Interactive solutions or platforms
- Educational tools or resources
- Awareness campaigns
- Corporate solutions
Proposals can be at any stage of development:
- Well thought-out ideas that require additional research or planning
- Comprehensive strategies that are ready for prototyping or implementation
- Initiatives that have already achieved success and are ready to be scaled
This contest is not seeking the following:
- Ideas or strategies that require extensive regulatory intervention
- Strategies that target specific geographic regions solely
Prizes
In addition to wide recognition by the MIT Climate CoLab, the winner* of the Materials Contest will receive a $10,000 prize.
* The term winner should be understood as the Judges' Choice winner, as selected by Nike contest Judges. The Judges' Choice winner will be the recipient of the cash prize. Both the Judges' Choice and the Popular Choice winners will be invited to present at MIT's Crowds & Climate Conference in September.
