Pitch

Millions of people in developing countries lack protein. Organic waste can be turned into high grade animal feed with BS fly larvae.

Description

Summary

In a few countries waste food, crops and manure is now fed to the the larvae of the Black Soldier Fly. Most larvae thus produced are used as feed for exotic pets in advanced countries!

This technique is known in a few part-developed countries but not in any poor country where it could be fed to farm animals as high grade feed.. It would, for example, enable the poorest people to have eggs whereas feed now has to be imported.

The main potential may well be in the treatment of human manure since  BSF larvae.consume any organic matter. This would allow the reduction of the contents of latrines.

Some work is being done in a few developing countries to deal with urban waste.including human manure but most BSF are bred in advanced countries in artificial conditions.
