If you believe that the Sun emits heat and light, and that a mirror reflects sunlight, then you can believe in my invention.

Description

Summary

The unique collector system is conical in shape. The cone shape can/will allow for the harvesting of the solar, wind, and water energies. The fluids flowing through the conical shape cause the increase in pressure necessary to drive the turbines and blowers/fans, i.e. by causing back pedaling, which in turn, drive the generators for electrical power. The sun is 92.6+ million miles from earth, is the highest point-source light known to man. The sunrays only deviates .25 of 1°.

My invention will harvest those highly parallel light rays, keep them parallel to light a building (Space) with one rotating beam of sunlight that is further reflected by additional mirrors as needed. As in motion pictures, people can’t see the void between film frames because of persistence of vision. They cannot see the darkness between the short flashes of light. You’ve heard the term “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t”; well in this case it is true.

The Collector System itself will do much more. The unique collector system is conical in shape. The The cone shape allows for the generation of “fluid force” utilizing air and/or water, with: streams; rivers; waves; tidal, both in and out, using squirrel cage blower wheels, fan blades, etc., and generators. The fluids flowing through the conical shape cause the increase in pressure necessary to drive the blowers/fans etc., driving the electric generators.

I can harvest it better than most. My invention incorporates a dual-axis solar-tracker control that is, perhaps, more accurate than GPS. The control aims the collector directly at the Sun, thereby receiving the maximum output of the Sun 100% of the time when it is in direct line of site. This will also allow for the maximum output of photovoltaic cells for generating electricity by looking directly at the Sun. Renewable Energy is the wave of the future and is highly necessary to ward off Global Warming.

What are the key outcomes and impact of your solution?

Outcomes

When the current prototype tracker control is converted from electric-electronic to a full-fledge electronic control, it will be second to none. The control will be used primarily for all ‘solar tracking’ projects. Additionally, it will be available to all solar enthusiasts worldwide. It can be a single axis tracker control or a dual axis tracker control.

Impact

The tracker control will follow the sun for maximum output efficiency for photovoltaic cells and for the gathering of the sun’s heat and light for their respective applications. Precise tracking and keeping the sunrays parallel allows for the interior lighting of buildings. Lighting the interior of buildings with one beam of sunlight will drastically reduce electric bills. It can also light building interiors where there is an absence of electricity with the application of batteries. The heating of the interior of a building straightaway is also possible. With the use of hot mirrors and cold mirrors, you can do one or the other or, both.

"A cold mirror is a specialized dielectric mirror, a dichroic filter, that reflects the entire visible light spectrum while very efficiently transmitting infrared wavelengths. Similar to hot mirrors, cold mirrors can be designed for an incidence angle ranging between zero and 45 degrees, and are constructed with multi-layer dielectric coatings, in a manner similar to interference filters. Cold mirrors can be employed as dichroic  beam splitters with laser systems to reflect visible light wavelengths while transmitting infrared."[1]

"A hot mirror is a specialized dielectric mirror, a dichroic filter, often employed to protect optical systems by reflecting infrared light back into a light source, while allowing visible light to pass. Hot mirrors can be designed to be inserted into the optical system at an incidence angle varying between zero and 45 degrees, and are useful in a variety of applications…"[2]

The precise tracking will also maximize the collection of heat from the sun thus eliminating or helping to limit the use of fossil fuels. Both will create a smaller carbon footprint and help tremendously in the reduction of Global Warming.

The unique renewable energy collector unit itself is the ultimate “workhorse” of the solution.  The unit will:

1.    Collect the light of the sun. In addition to lighting the buildings (space) straightaway, I believe the light can also be used to power and to improve fiber optic lighting systems.

2.    Collect the heat of the sun. In addition to using the heat straightaway with heat exchangers, it can heat fluids for heat storage and it can heat a pile of rocks for the storage of heat.

3.   The cone shape…will allow for the generation of “fluid force”…utilizing air and/or water, with: streams; rivers; waves; tidal, both in and out…using squirrel cage blower wheels, fan blades, turbines, and, generators.

Again, all of the above will create a smaller carbon footprint and help tremendously in the reduction of Global Warming.

What actions do you propose to realize your stated goals?

My ultimate long-term goal is to create a successful company to take my ideas about renewable energy to market.

Step 1.  Prove out the control theory

In the short term, I envision having a Research and Development Lab and an engineering company take the existing electric-electronic prototype control and redesign it to a full-fledged ready-for-market electronic control utilizing microcontrollers and electronic relays (FET"S), GPS and, software programming etc..

In taking the existing electrical-electronic control to market, I will pursue that with the engineer and his Engineering Firm that produced the first prototype. I will also interface with, and use the manufacturing firm that produced the prototype. Part of the ‘system’ is the separate sensor assembly. The new sensor assembly also needs to be produced in a Plug-and-Play assembly with several extension (plug-and-play) cord assemblies. Also needed is to pursue with a “Chip” Manufacturer about the costs to manufacture a new solid state chip that is mounted in a waterproof container. Realistically speaking, I think all of the aforementioned items can be accomplished with $40,000.00 USD.

I believe the control will be “Plug-and-Play”, about the size of an oversized electronic thermostat and, this is doable within 90 days. This control is a major component of all the Solar Tracking Systems. The tracker control would also be desirable by solar enthusiasts Worldwide. This control can do a reasonably good job tracking the sun, just by the timing function alone. Even if, the control isn’t absolutely perfect, in the automatic mode, it can be operated manually. One person, with one control, could operate an entire Solar Array with ease. The beauty of this control design is such that it can be made more accurate or, less accurate to make corrections for the seasonal solstices and equinoxes. By taking a marketable control to market early on will start generating income immediately and, have some operating capital to offset expenses. Selling franchises will also generate early income.

Step 2.  Hire a Success Oriented Special Management Team to take my ideas to market.

Step 3. Simultaneously, a Research Lab could prove out the theory of the new design spotlight. The new spotlight could be installed on police cars and, also sold to the general public. Also: Setup Franchises and/or White-label licenses 

I would hire a sales team to setup franchises and/or white-label licenses for the various manufacturing firms, followed by setting up contracting firms starting out locally and then branching out elsewhere.

Franchises are recommended for the following reasons:

a)    Cost-saving.

Doing everything in one location, manufacturing some components and shipping, traveling long distances and installing systems are cost prohibitive.

b)    Efficiency.

Regional Franchises and Contracting Firms are best handled locally. Research and Development is a major component of this endeavor and, must be engaged immediately. Also, Research and Development is a major component and must be performed on an ongoing basis. Some Wind Tunnel testing must be done. The infinite number of renewable energy systems possible is extremely unwieldy to handle so, a select number of unit Models in each category must be designed and, have specifications written for each. Research and Development will be required forever. Engineering drawings, along with prototyping, testing and “Approvals” are needed.

I will use the Internet for marketing, starting with the tracking control. Sharing costs with the manufacturers and contractors could be done.

I will pursue legislation, through my representatives, to assure that the population (the end user) can install my products on their respective properties.

The end user can install on their property, and grid tie to their electric utility, thereby increasing the overall electrical capacity, and reduce the necessary future building of fossil fuel powered electrical generating plants. 

Some transactions will be performed by the parent company, while others will be done locally to be competitive.

Sunshine is approximately half light and half heat; need more heat...use a larger mirror(s); need more light...use a larger mirror(s). For when the sun is unavailable, the invention uses a new type incandescent spotlight for use in lieu of the sun. All the components of the entire system can be resized within the realm of practicality. You’ve heard the term “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t”; well in this case it is true. Renewable Energy is the wave of the future and is highly necessary to ward off Global Warming.

Needed is a Success Oriented Special Management Team to take this endeavor to market. They will be assisted by research and development laboratories.

The President should have an MBA Degree with a strong understanding of: Management; Finance; Marketing; Entrepreneurship; and, Human Resource Management.

The Manager should have a BBA in Marketing.

The Solar Engineer should have a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree.

The Mechanical Engineer should have a Master of Business Administration (MBA); and be proficient in CAD software.

The Technician should have a 2 year Associate degree in Electrical and Electronics; and being proficient in CAD software would be desirable.

The Secretary should have a 2 year degree in secretarial skills.

The team will consist of members of the caliber of graduates from the University of Massachusetts and Stanford.

This could be a Company-of-Companies. The Parent Company would be the “General”. The subordinates would be manufacturing companies like: manufacturers of solar collectors; ovens; boilers; etc…Each company would have their various model numbers, etc..

Target geography

Currently, the Company is, and will be, located at 63752 E. Holiday Dr. 85739-2135 in Tucson, AZ. but, the President of the new team can determine where the place of choice will be. It is best to keep everything as local as possible. We can communicate over the Internet, both by voice and text.

Tucson, Arizona is located on the high Sonoran Desert, which wraps around the northern end of the Gulf of California. Fresh drinking water is at a premium and, its aquifer is drying out. The California Aqueduct ends here, and the water of the Colorado River is being overdrawn and fought over by several Southwestern States. In the next ten years, the water of the aquifer could be depleted. The land is arid, the sun is hot…air conditioning is overworking. More electricity is needed to keep them running more hours each day. Land is easy to buy but, more electricity is needed to keep the air conditioners operating.

Because of the currently high cost of producing fresh drinking water from the sea, cheap labor, a surrounding desert environment (with temperatures of over 110 degrees in the day and sub-freezing temperatures at night,  a highly educated populace, (the University of Arizona is located here). We have rail, and Interstate Highway 10 runs through here, so transportation and shipping is good. I’m planning to build my company, Walden's Greenergy Solar, "Providing cost effective solar apparatus devices to the world", in Tucson.

The applicability of this process is universal. Nearly everyone in the world can benefit; i.e. can save on their utilities; can light and heat buildings; can be generated and stored as heat and electricity. It can store heat in fluids or in a pile of rocks. And, it can store electricity in batteries. It can be an umbrella type sunshade located on everybody's backyard patio.

Also, this invention can provide for a desalination plant for converting ocean water to distilled water with concentrated solar rays. It can bake bread in self-contained solar ovens for Desert Dwelling Tribes. It can heat swimming pools. This invention can harness power from solar, wind and, water. Wave energy can be harnessed as well as, tidal flows, both inward and outward.  Additionally it is renewable energy.

recent study (See References) by researchers at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin, using a new computer model, showed that wind and solar are the cheapest way to build a new power plant in 51 percent of America’s 3,110 counties. This would be an excellent investment in a company like mine with real potential to attract capital from sources outside of BEV and the broader Breakthrough Energy Coalition.

Because there have not been any paid for studies on the varius markets, the following two (2) quotes are to try in helping the understanding of who the buyers are.

Half of 91 million is 45.5 million couples that will buy and be fixing up houses as they build families and take their place in the U.S. economy. And, the millennials are conscious of, and desirous of, renewable energy. That is a tremendous amount of possible solar energy purchasers available in the near future.

2016 was the year solar panels finally became cheaper than fossil fuels. Just wait for 2017.

Here's 10 data points (stories) I’ve hand-picked to hammer home the historic nature of this 2016 achievement.

a) 25% of the World’s Power Comes From Renewables: REN21, a global renewable energy policy network, published a report showing that a quarter of the world’s power now comes from renewable energy. f) Scotland Generated 106% Energy from Wind: This year, high winds boosted renewable energy output to provide 106% of Scotland’s electricity needs for a day.

g) Costa Rica Ran on Renewables for 2+ Months: The country ran on 100% renewable energy for 76 days.

h) Google to Run 100% on Renewable Energy: Google has announced its entire global business will be powered by renewable energy in 2017.

j) Tesla’s Gigafactory: Tesla’s $5 billion structure in Nevada will produce 500,000 lithium ion batteries annually and Tesla’s Model III vehicle. It is now over 30 percent complete… the 10 million square foot structure is set to be done by 2020. Musk projected that a total of 100 Gigafactories could provide enough storage capacity to run the entire planet on renewables." [h]

Timeline

This team would include the Salesman who would take the newly developed control systems to the manufacturer. This could be done within 90 days. The new generation control can be designed, testing of the prototype could be completed and, taking it to market should be completed within 6 months. Simultaneously, the first system could be designed, engineered, manufactured, sold, installed and put online within the same time period. 

Moving products to market can be accomplished within 1 year.

The team will consist of members of the caliber of graduates from the University of Massachusetts and Stanford.

Based on the dimensions you supplied the calculated angular deviation of the sun from normal, right down the center of the tube, to where the 1st direct rays begin to hit the edge of one of the side sensors is 1.32 degrees.
